What's the what

There are a number of projects I’ve undertaken, many of which I do not have photographic evidence of, and many of which most people are not going to find impressive. Maybe if you knew me, you would be as impressed as I am. Here is the list of things I can think of (in no order), which I will try over the coming week/months/etc to expand upon for your entertainment.

-Hung curtains in the bedroom, downstairs bathroom and guestroom

-Hung blinds in the kitchen

-Installed two shelves in the kitchen

-Lined the stupid, painted insides of kitchen drawers. Seriously, who paints the inside of drawers?

-Put a new screen door on the mudroom

-Took off the ugly one on the front door

-Installed quarter rounds in the entire living room, to cover the unsightly black gap between the wall and the floor

-Took off the industrial grey baseboards in the hallway and replaced with quarter rounds

-Painted bathroom, installed baseboards and quarter rounds

-Painted bedroom

-Supervised (loosely) (not really) the installation of a second floor bathroom

-Put tiles on the mudroom shelf

-Started landscaping the backyard

-Put up a shelf in the bedroom

-Installed shelving and racks in the ONE closet in our house

-Removed the carpet in the small guestroom/office, painted the walls and the floor, and, yup, installed quarter rounds.

This seems like a lot, and on one level I’m pretty pleased with myself, looking at it all listed out, but this is over two years, so maybe it’s not SO noteworthy, but still, considering that before my husband and I bought a house, I’d never done anything remotely handy, I’ve come along way. I use power tools, for heavens sakes.

So tell me what project you want to hear about.*

*Since, I’m sure, no one is reading this yet, I will pick for myself if there are no comments.

Making the Introductions

First, “princess.” Maybe not really. Certainly not literally, don’t get excited on that front. I’m reasonably down-to-earth, well aware of the realities of life. I do not subscribe to the idea that I “deserve” to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on my appearance and accessories, and that it is my husbands purpose to make this possible. That said, I don’t have a job, I do go to the gym and get pedicures, and I have an inordinate amount of spare time, some of which I do spend shopping for items some would consider expensive.

But this blog (not considered a word by my spell check, oh dear) is mostly concerned with my spare time, and the other way that I fill it. Home improvement projects. Oh yeah baby. This is the “hammer” part. I was inspired to write about my projects by the latest one, which was so time-consuming and annoying that I could console myself only by writing darkly humorous tirades in my head. I do not enjoy home improvement projects; we should get that clear now. I love the results, and I am willing to suffer to get them, but only if I can whine.
